A moment to check in.

Sometimes a fresh perspective and a listening ear from a qualified professional is just what you need to move forward. Our consultation service refers to a single 50-minute session. The objective is to focus on a specific issue for the session without going into a lot of background details. We seek to offer support, validation and clarity for those seeking a safe space to check in.

For those seeking:

  • A safe space to speak with a professional

  • Validation and help making sense of emotions

  • Support in a difficult life moment

  • Support in making a difficult decision

  • To obtain an objective perspective on a specific question

  • Help with other specific questions and topics

This service is for those seeking help with a specific question or in the context of a specific situation. It is not for those who seek or would benefit from ongoing and regular therapy sessions. For issues that require a more in-depth assessment and consideration of more detailed ground information, please refer to our individual therapy services.

frequently asked questions.

01.

Individual Therapy

+ How can I lift my mood?

Some things that help our clients lift their moods are taking walks, connecting with loved ones, making art, and attending therapy every week. Low mood is a common experience in today’s world, and the experienced therapists at L’espace are ready to help you feel like yourself again.

+ What does an anxiety attack feel like?

Many people experience physical symptoms such as racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, and sweating during a panic attack. At L’espace, we’ll help you identify what your anxiety attacks look and feel like and give you tools to recover quickly the next time panic strikes.

+ Can I talk about my relationship in individual therapy?

Yes. Individual therapy is a great place to explore your contributions to the relationships in your life. We also offer Couples Therapy if you and your partner are ready to improve your relationship together.

+ How do I know if I need to see a therapist?

There are numerous reasons why people seek therapy. Anything from high stress levels, relationship difficulties, loss, life questions and transitions, trouble sleeping, self-esteem, anxiety, depression and trauma are just some examples of why people reach out to us for help. If you’re wondering if therapy is right for you, contact us here.

+ I tried therapy before and did not benefit from it. Is therapy for me?

Research shows that the quality of the relationship between you and your therapist is one of the primary predictors of client progress. At L’espace, through our 15-minute introductory call, we help match you with a therapist who is best suited to meet your needs.

02.

Couples Therapy

+ How does couples therapy work?

Couples therapy is a place for you and your partner to practice healthier communication skills, repair old wounds, and revise your shared goals. You’ll meet with your therapist weekly to change old patterns and create real and lasting growth.

+ Why is my sex drive so different than my partners’?

Many factors contribute to your individual level of sex drive, including hormones, stress level, beliefs, and relationship dynamics. Differing levels of sex drive in a partnership is more common than you might think, and through couples therapy at L’espace, we can help you and your partner understand each other’s needs in order to connect on an intimate level again.

+ How do we know if our relationship needs to end?

Deciding whether or not to end a relationship is a personal choice that can be explored through couples therapy. We can help you assess your current relationship and create a plan for moving forward that makes sense for you.

03.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

+ My child is being bullied. What do I do?

Therapy can help your child process the difficult emotions associated with bullying, build confidence, and learn new and healthy ways of coping. While all we want to do, as parents, is stop the bullying, giving children and teens the tools to confidently stand up for themselves builds strength and resilience that will carry them through adulthood.

+ How do I help my child feel better?

Whether your child has excessive feelings of worry, sadness, or anger, therapy at L’espace can help. We’ll provide the space for your child or teen to understand his/her emotions and we’ll help them develop coping skills to create healthy, lasting habits.

+ How does child therapy and teen therapy work?

Your child or teen will meet with their therapist weekly. Your child’s therapist will provide treatment updates and skills to practice at home between sessions, and may include you in sessions occasionally as clinically appropriate.

04.

Teletherapy

+ Can I meet with a therapist without coming to your office?

Yes! We offer teletherapy as an option to all of our clients. As long as you have a reliable internet connection and a quiet space to talk, you can meet with your therapist “virtually,” from the comfort of your home.

+ How does teletherapy work?

Instead of meeting your therapist in their office, you’ll meet via video conferencing software. You and your therapist will schedule a time to meet virtually, then your therapist will send you a link to join the video call. When you click on the link, you’ll see your therapist appear on your screen, and your session will progress as it would in-person.

General Questions

+ Where is the clinic located and is there parking?

Easily accessible for residents of Montreal, Laval and the North Shore. Two clinic locations:

  • 216 boul. Levesque, Est. Laval, H7G1C6
  • 1591 rue Fleury, Est. Suite 300, H2C1S7
  • Street parking is easily available

+ How do I make an appointment?

Contact us and schedule a 15 minute call. We will happily assess your needs and help you select an available therapist. If you reach us outside of normal business hours, you may leave a voicemail or email us directly at info@lespacepsychologie.com

+ How is my personal information protected?

Our therapists are bound by law to keep the information you share strictly confidential, except when imminent danger of death or severe injury are disclosed. We encrypt your digital personal health information, and keep any physical copies in a secure location. Only your therapist has access to your personal file.

+ Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No. A referral from your doctor is not needed to start therapy. To schedule your first appointment, contact us here.

+ How long does psychotherapy last?

Duration depends on your goals and unique situation. Many of our clients participate in therapy for 10 to 20 sessions, but several continue beyond 20 sessions. We recommend starting with weekly sessions to increase effectiveness and reduce your symptoms. Less frequent sessions may be indicated after a few months, but you and your therapist can talk about the best plan for you.

+ Am I a good candidate for psychotherapy?

We believe therapy is for everyone. Whether you’re hoping to reduce symptoms of severe mental illness or increase daily wellbeing, there is space for you here. Please contact us to be matched with a therapist who will meet your needs.

+ What are your session rates?

For an individual, 50-minute session, our rate varies between $140 and $160. Please inquire about Couples therapy rates during your introductory call. Also note that most insurance plans cover our services, and your therapist will provide you with the required receipts after each session.

+ Will my sessions be covered by my insurance?

Most insurance plans cover “psychological services” for services provided by members of l’Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). All of our psychologists are members of the OPQ and will provide you with the required receipts after each session. We also have some therapists who are currently pursuing their doctoral studies who are supervised by more senior psychologists who are members of the OPQ. The amount covered varies depending on the insurance company and the plan. Please contact your insurance provider for the specifics of your plan.

+ What are your hours?

The clinic is open from 8am to 9pm. Availabilities vary depending on the therapist and we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs.

+ What are your methods of payment?

Payment for services is due at the end of each session and you will receive an official receipt that you may retain for insurance and income tax purposes. Fees may be paid by cash or debit card.

+ Do you offer tele-therapy services?

Yes, our therapists offer tele-therapy. Learn more here.

+ What is your cancellation policy?

All clinic appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance or the full fee will be charged. You can reschedule or cancel your appointment by communicating directly with your therapist.
